Technology can have a huge impact on productivity in the office, whether it’s dual monitors, faster scanners, label printers or faster computers. Equipping staff with better tools can make a world of difference for productivity.
Some may be thinking, “Why do I need two monitors?” the answer; two monitors doubles viewing space. Have emails opened on one monitor and projects open on another one. This eliminates going back and forth between each window. Multitasking becomes the norm not the exception. When adding monitors there is a quantitative improvement. Many are now moving to 3 or 4 monitors and seeing improved productivity. Make sure to do product research, there is a possibility that some may end up saving money without skimping on quality.

Everyone with a paperless office knows this scenario, having to scan something and the scanner just drags slowly along. The obvious, easy fix to this is a faster scanner. Fast scanners are a must for the employees that do non stop scanning; a fast scanner on each of their desks is necessary. Even with a group scanner or copier, consider the desktop scanner, this is going to eliminate the great office inefficiency…getting up from your desk way too often. There are a few different brands that are good but the one we recommend most is Fujitsu.
Another way to become more efficient is faster computers. This doesn’t require getting new computers. Just by adding more RAM or memory can make the computer remarkably faster and save money. Window 7 is another great technical improvement; it makes the computer run faster and smoother than Vista and XP.
When needing to only print one label at a time, normal printers are extremely wasteful. It wastes time and supplies by having to print out a whole sheet when only one is needed. Look into a device that allows for single label printing. There are many different brands out there, but we choose to use Dymo. There are even some models that print out postage to save even more time and increase productivity.
Between the scanners, printers, computers and monitors, all of these enhancements are certain to help manage growth in a small business.
